Hydrovac Excavation in Doon South
Hydrovac across Doon South and the newer phases along Doon South Drive and Robert Ferrie Drive, where new services run shallow in graded clay.
Doon South is the busiest fence, deck and pool market in Kitchener, and the services under it are new, shallow and close to every lot line. The typical job here is a fence contractor with a full day of rear and side lot line holes where the locate shows a joint-use trench a metre inside the line, or a deck or pool installer who needs the gas and hydro services exposed at the house wall before footings go in. Graded clay holds water and produces more slurry per hole than sand, so the debris tank fills faster and disposal runs are part of the day. Every lot carries a lot-grading plan on file with the City, and holes that are not used are backfilled with clean granular material and compacted to finished grade so they do not settle into the swale and send water next door. Footing depth is confirmed with the City's building division rather than assumed. Properties backing onto the Grand River corridor at the south edge may be in a Grand River Conservation Authority regulated area, where removing material from a site can need a permit.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a travel charge outside Kitchener?
Not as a separate line. The surrounding townships are quoted on the same hourly basis as the city, and travel time is part of the day. What changes a quote is the ground and the job rather than the postal code: a long rural run of pole holes with good access is often cheaper per hole than a downtown back yard.
Do the permit rules change outside the city?
Yes. Kitchener's work permit covers city roads and boulevards inside Kitchener. In Woolwich or Wilmot Township the township issues its own road occupancy permits, and Regional roads anywhere in the region go through the Region of Waterloo. The Ontario One Call locate requirement is the same everywhere in Ontario.
Can you reach a back yard?
Usually. The truck parks on the street or the driveway and the hose and wand run to the hole, so a back yard reachable through a side gate is normal work. Very long hose runs reduce suction and slow the dig, and that is one of the things confirmed at the site review.
