Hydrovac Excavation in Breslau

Hydrovac in Breslau, from the new subdivisions off Woolwich Street South to the acreages and rural properties toward the Grand River.

Breslau splits into two kinds of hydrovac work. The new subdivisions have the same shallow services in graded clay as Doon South, and the same follow-on trades needing post holes and footings beside them. The rural properties and acreages are different: long fence and pole runs with room to park the truck beside the line, which makes the per-hole cost better than any city back yard; driveway culverts that silt up and flood every spring; and private buried infrastructure that no locate covers, such as septic beds, wells, a gas line run out to a shop, or an old service to a barn that was taken down. Finding those by hydrovac before a footing or a new line goes in is the kind of job that saves a very expensive afternoon. Breslau is in the Township of Woolwich, so a road or boulevard permit comes from the township rather than the City of Kitchener, while the Ontario One Call locate requirement is identical. Properties near the Grand River may be in a Grand River Conservation Authority regulated area, which is worth checking on the GRCA's mapping before the truck is booked.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a travel charge outside Kitchener?

Not as a separate line. The surrounding townships are quoted on the same hourly basis as the city, and travel time is part of the day. What changes a quote is the ground and the job rather than the postal code: a long rural run of pole holes with good access is often cheaper per hole than a downtown back yard.

Do the permit rules change outside the city?

Yes. Kitchener's work permit covers city roads and boulevards inside Kitchener. In Woolwich or Wilmot Township the township issues its own road occupancy permits, and Regional roads anywhere in the region go through the Region of Waterloo. The Ontario One Call locate requirement is the same everywhere in Ontario.

Can you reach a back yard?

Usually. The truck parks on the street or the driveway and the hose and wand run to the hole, so a back yard reachable through a side gate is normal work. Very long hose runs reduce suction and slow the dig, and that is one of the things confirmed at the site review.
