Hydrovac Excavation in Forest Heights
Hydrovac across Forest Heights and the established west-side streets off Fischer-Hallman and Highland Road.
Forest Heights is mid-century housing with fifty-year-old trees, and the constraint on digging here is roots as much as services. A hydrovac wand removes soil from around a root without cutting it, which is what makes it the right tool for footings, post holes and slot trenches inside a mature canopy where the owner, or the City in the case of boulevard trees, requires the roots to be preserved. The services are older than in the south end and the records are thinner: original gas and water services, sometimes replaced and sometimes not, and private lines run to garages and pools over the decades that no locate will mark. Daylighting at the house wall before an addition or a deck is the common job, along with replacing fence posts that have rotted at grade in a line that runs through roots. Holes are cut to the footing depth confirmed with the City's building division, and the spoil leaves in the truck.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a travel charge outside Kitchener?
Not as a separate line. The surrounding townships are quoted on the same hourly basis as the city, and travel time is part of the day. What changes a quote is the ground and the job rather than the postal code: a long rural run of pole holes with good access is often cheaper per hole than a downtown back yard.
Do the permit rules change outside the city?
Yes. Kitchener's work permit covers city roads and boulevards inside Kitchener. In Woolwich or Wilmot Township the township issues its own road occupancy permits, and Regional roads anywhere in the region go through the Region of Waterloo. The Ontario One Call locate requirement is the same everywhere in Ontario.
Can you reach a back yard?
Usually. The truck parks on the street or the driveway and the hose and wand run to the hole, so a back yard reachable through a side gate is normal work. Very long hose runs reduce suction and slow the dig, and that is one of the things confirmed at the site review.
